My cat has big knots of hair on her back?

Both of my cats have big knots of hair. It's mainly on their lower backs and a little on the tail too. Why is this happening and every time i take it off, they come back. How can i get rid of them for good?

They're called ''mats'', and they will continue to reoccur, unless you spend some time brushing/grooming your cats to prevent them.

Grooming. How often do you comb them - not brush them? A metal comb will remove the dead hairs of the undercoat which is what's causing these mats. And whether your cat is shorthair or long the coat can mat. Hopefully you're keeping your cats inside. If not - you should. There's lots of stuff that can get tangled up in their coats and it's MUCH safer for them inside, anyway!

If they are even a little overweight or older cats it can happen. They don't groom themselves as well. I would take her to a groomer to have their mats shaved out. Do not try to cut them out or shave them yourself, because cats have very thin skin and it is easy for someone to cut them. Try to brush them after that as often as possible to help prevent frequent trips to the groomers. Good Luck!!!

Your cat has matted hair. Best to have a groomer cut them out and then just brush your cat more often.

Mats tend to occur on oilly parts of the skin that don't get groomed often. So a good brush at least once a week should take care of that problem.
