I'm in serious need of help with finding an absolutely stunning new hair cut. HELP ME PLEASE!!!

About 6 months ago, I stopped getting my hair cut -- big mistake. Because, my hair is extremely thick and I have a lot of it -- growing it proved to be a disaster. And, to make matters worse - I got sick of it being in my face, and tried cutting it myself. OOOPPPS! So, I am left with some really, really, really short bangs (sp?), layers upon layers that are over grown, unmanagable, and killing my mornings trying to tame it.

I really must add that I am going through an ugly-ugly divorce, and well, I just want to feel free, wild, and young again.

Do you think that going as far as getting it cut in one of those boyish type of cuts that doesn't really leave much hair, is to much? Or should I go for it?

My entire life, I have basically worn it short - but, have never gone to this extreme before. My hair is dark brown, eyes-hazel, and I have a round face.

Anyone have any advice, and some pictures to choose from?

you need some kind of smoothing product for your hair. i have super wavy and THICK hair. and if i'm not careful can get pretty frizzy if i don't put product in after i shower. For me i use vo5 smoothing suffle (its a red tube) or the new products by Herbal Essence works pretty well.

I had the same prob and I had it chemically relaxed. I do not have "wash and go" hair and never will, but it has cut down on styling time and does not puff out in humidity. I am able to get my hair perfectly straight and it stays that way until the nexy wash. The process was not very expensive (around $125) and should last 6 months (I have has it for 3 and it is still working well). You MUST take good care of your hair or it will become damaged from the chemicals and heat styling. I recommend Frederik Fekkai protein rx shampoo and conditioner and fekkai glossing creme to style. Use a professional hairdryer and ionic flatiron. I am also highlighted and have not had a problem with damage. Good luck!

Depending on how thick your hair is, this still might not give you lasting volume for the whole day but it still should work pretty well. Good luck.

Grooming. How often do you comb them - not brush them? A metal comb will remove the dead hairs of the undercoat which is what's causing these mats. And whether your cat is shorthair or long the coat can mat. Hopefully you're keeping your cats inside. If not - you should. There's lots of stuff that can get tangled up in their coats and it's MUCH safer for them inside, anyway!

Do not try to cut them out or shave them yourself, because cats have very thin skin and it is easy for someone to cut them. I feel your pain! I wouldn't normally wear my hair like that, but the time's I've tried I've never been able to get mine THAAAT big. The best I can tell you is hairspray your shortest layers at the crown of your hair, let it dry, rat it, spray, let it dry, rat it, repeat until you reach desired effect.

This may apply to you, too. I talked to my hair girl about it, and she said I can't get it that big because I have soft, thin strands. Maybe you do, too?

That .. is ..... NOT .... BIGGGGGG hair LOL.

Tips I can suggest.........

First, that might not even be all HER hair.. it could be extensions, clips, glued in , sewn in, etc.

There are also things like half halos , or combs, that u can put underneath your hair to help give it a lot of lift.

Backcombing helps, but you 1. have to know what you're doing so you dont end up with NO hair, and secondly, spray spray spray.. spray medium shots of hairspray, backcomb a lil, then blow dry that section, spray lightly, and do it over and over.

Also, although there are some great products on the market now... some of the " old tried and true " methods are still around.

I have long hair, with big waves at the bottom. My hair straightener I have currently is from Conair. You'll kill your hair if you go too cheap....I've used several irons and I can promise you it's worth it to buy a good flat iron.

I've used several brands...everything from Conair to Chi...Chi is a good iron but the best by far is the Sedu iron...It doesn't damage and your hair won't get caught in it..The was always a problem with every other iron I've had. I've had my Sedu for a few years now and it's just as fabulous as the day I bought it...Believe me, there's no comparison....You'll end up spending more $$ in the long run trying to fix your damaged hair from using a cheaper iron.

I am a Cosmetologist. I purchased the Big Sexy Hair products on a promotion and was excited to try it out for Halloween. I DID use a generous amount of the teasing in a can. I have blonde hair extensions but I never had a mess like this made in my hair. It wouldn't come out completely after 3 washings. I ended up removing my extensions and buying new ones. Edit: I saw someone's answer about keeping your hair clean...I have really really long hair, so I have some experience here. Don't wash your hair more than a couple times a week, it strips the oils. Don't over blow dry or heat process. Use a leave in conditioner. Start combing it out from the ends to avoid breakage. Don't brush it wet, comb it with a wide tooth comb. Wear your hair in a loose pony on top of your head when sleeping.

Backcombing !! It works wonders for me. What you need to do is buy a little brush, maybe Patrick Cameron, and start at the back of your head coming upwards. Take smallish sections, lift up the piece of hair towards the sky and comb down the way, like reverse combing. Don't do it too harsh because you'll break the hair otherwise. Keep doing this until you have the effect you want, then smooth parts of the top of your hair over the backcomb and use hairspray to twig crazy bits into place. And you should get your stylist to cut short layers into the top of your hair so that this style is easier to achieve. Hope I helped! Lulu x

I did something stupid: I put onion juice on my hair b/c I heard it will make my hair strong. BIG mistake. I already tried these remedies which didn't work..

3. chamomile tea, black tea,

4. tomato paste

5. baking soda (smelled awful and made my hair feel weird but it didn't help) ~maybe baking powder would be different???

6. lemon juice (seemed to dry my hair and smell came right back and soon as I washed it out)

7. mouthwash with peroxide (yeah, i was desperate)

8. cinammon powder

9. cayenne powder (it made my scalp hot though!)

I know for a fact that tomato juice works to get rid of skunk smell. It might neutralize the onion because it is acidic. The only time I wouldn't use the tomato juice is if you have extremely light blonde hair that is very porous or damaged. If not, put the tomato juice on you hair and leave on about an hour. After rinsing it out, use a dandruff shampoo, preferably one with salicylic acid in it. You may need to go to a salon to get that. KeraCare sells a shampoo and conditioner with salicylic acid in it. The smell should be gone because the tomato juice is acidic and the salicyclic acid gets buildup off your hair and also neutralizes odors caused from dandruff. The KeraCare shampoo and conditioner also have menthol in them. They moisturize, detangle, and make your hair smell minty fresh! Kinda like breath mints for your hair!

Note: I just noticed that you used tomato paste in your hair. I'm wondering if maybe you didn't leave it in long enough. What you want to do is wet your hair down with warm water to open the cuticle then put the tomato juice all over it. Cover it with a plastic cap for an hour and then shampoo with the KeraCare shampoo. The shampoo says to shampoo, rinse, then shampoo again and leave on for five minutes. After you rinse it out the last time, you put the conditioner on it for 20 minutes and then rinse it out. I know it seems like a long process, but this will definitely give you sweet-smelling hair and will even make your hair feel soft!

well when i chop onions i usually rub my hands on a stainless steel bar and then wash hands with soap it takes the smell out. except i don't know how you would do that to your hair. let's see.. What if you try lemon juice with a bit of olive oil. I hear olive oil is good for the scalp. Salt also helps in lessening the smell. try putting table salt with your shampoo.

it can be done but with a lot of products like anti frizz serum and heat protection spray for straightening and wax to style into place.....

It will be very hard to style, and you'll use tons of products and heat styling, and you'll end up doing a lot of damage to your hair with all the styling. And even then, you're not a hairstylist and you just might not be able to make it look that way...ever. My suggestion would be to choose pictures of several different styles and take them to your stylist. She will be able to tell you if they will work on your hair and suggest products to properly style it.

I would use either large hot rollers or a large curling iron. After you curl, let the curls cool completely prior to finger combing. Don't brush or comb, as this could make your curls frizzy.

I've got really long brown hair and i find it hard to make waves too without damaging it too much..so i basically just take a curling tong but instead of putting my hair in the tong i wrap it around fairly loosely and hold it for about 8-10 secs. Creates a nice boho wave!

I'm worried about my hair, I know relaxing hair damages it, but does it also decolor the hair? My hair color is black, this is the second time I've relaxed my hair, I liked the results the first time, and i properly conditioned and moisturized my hair, so it didnt become dry, therefore naturally I went back after 2 months, but now I'm thinking it was a big mistake. My hair seems darker, ie jet black...but when you look at my hair in the light from an angle, you can clearly see brown hair, not just a few, but a lot of it....is it going to keep losing color and turn white? Is the new growth going to be black or brown? Should I just let my hair grow out and slowly cut every once in a while til the brownness is gone and my hair is full of "new growth" hair?

Hair Relaxers do strip the color from your hair. I have never heard of making the hair darker though. Your new growth is going to your natural color. My suggestion is to of course let a professional relax your hair and get touch-ups every three months. The chemicals are likely stripping your color and you may need to dye your hair.

okay well i was born with pin straight hair. when i was one it was really really curly, then when i was like 3-6 it was straightish wavyish. and then it turned wavy. then when i was 9 it turned really curly again. and its been curly for like 5 years now. and this morning i woke up with wavy hair. its weird. why did it do that? like last week i wished i had wavy hair and i guess its just my luck, i had like beachy waves. and my hair was big and puffy. not frizzy though.

i want my hair back to curly. is there a way i can fix it without going to the hair salon and spending $60 on a perm when it'll just ruin my hair?

If you've tried everything you can think of and have experimented with a ton of product then I have one suggestion: STOP!

Take the money you would spend on expensive products and go to a high end salon. Don't just sit in a seat and listen to some stylist because they work there. Call around, tell the people your situation and get references. Once you find someone with experience and referrals tell them everything you have tried (write it down before you go if you need to) and tell them everything you want to be able to do with you hair. As they cut and style your hair, ask questions! Nothing worse than getting a stellar hair cut and style and not being able to get it again because you don't know what the stylist did! Also be patient, you might have damaged your hair from all of your attempts and the routine the stylist gives you might take a while before you can SEE that it is working.

Growing up as a "gothic" teen, I fried my hair with product and when I was 17 I nearly lost all of my hair due to chemical processing and bleaching out colours, it took cutting my hair to 1/2 inch all around and taking really good care of my scalp to repair the damage. Hopefully you don't have to go through that!

If it takes you a while to find a stylist, do this in the mean time: Only wash your hair every other day. Don't use hair sprays/products that make your hair "crunchy" (crunchy means breaking). Be gentle when brushing your hair, use a detangler for knots. If you pull your hair up make sure to use good scrunchies! Elastic bands and the like damage your hair. Also, and this really helps! Brush your hair a lot! At night before you go to bed, get all the knots out then keep brushing! Make sure to go all the way to your scalp, the brushing stimulates the pours on your head and causes them to eminate a natural oil(called sebum), this oil is awesome for your hair and because it is produced by your body, it is exactly what your hair needs (and it isn't the kind of oil that will make your hair "oily" make it feel/look greasy. However it can weigh you hair down if you let too much build up)

for a really nice n good hair there is a need to care for them.good n costly products for hair does not provide beauty to hair.its the care which we do towards it shows.if u get any hairstyle such as rolling or crimping thn ew should keep our hair natural without any colour or style so that they can regain there natural elements which they require.for shiny hairs curd should be applied an hour before shampooing it.

don't style your hair or you wont have any by the time your 25!! I'm 24 (nearly 25) and my hair has thinned at alot since i was your age, i used to have similar problems.

what i would do is wash it with shampoo (- don't use conditioner more than once a week it'll get really greasy and you'll get spots) towel dry it til its damp then comb it and let it dry naturally - as it drys comb it through a couple more times, running your hand over where you have combed as you do it, this will keep it down - like naturally straigtening it. If you need to style it, mke sure you use a protective sirum first.

never brush your hair - that is how you get split ends!!

also if you find the conditioner doesn't last the week, use egg yoke instead (the yellow part only not the whites/clear part). It is a natural conditioner and works with more strength so lasts longer - though wash your hair with shampoo following if it smells - it shouldn't so long as the eggs aren't off.

also every so often use some aloe vera - go get yourself a full size aloe vera plant cut off a leaf and cut out the gel - do not use the leafs if they are spotty - they are not fully mature.

If you use a protecting cream on your hair before you straighten, it will not damage your hair... and make sure your straightener is CERAMIC, not metal. Only straighten everyother day.

Another easy trick is to wash your hair at night, brush your hair, apply a SMALL amount of mouse, and sleep in a low ponytail. When you wake up in the morning your hair shouldn't be as poofy.

Personally, I don't like Sunsilk brand. I think that Pantene 'Smooth and Sleek' shampoo and conditioner works the best. But if Sunsilk is working for you, then I would buy the shampoo too. Hope this helps.

Conair just came up with a new version of the original ( and bigger) Infiniti Hair Designer, and acording to the adds, it dries, straightens, and I guess also polishes the hair, all with one appliance. This product is a little expensive so, i'd like to hear what people have to say about it before considering to buy it.

Yes, I recently purchased the Infiniti and I really like it. It does in fact, detangle, dry and straighten my hair - and in about 1/2 the time it took to do these things before with just a regular hair dryer and a ceramic straightener - those took about an hour total, now my naturally curly/wavy hair is sleek, straight, shiny and smooth in about 35 minutes (I have thick hair - if you don't it will take much less time).

When I wear my hair straight using the Infiniti dryer, I do still use a relaxing balm or cream (because of the natural curliness) but I am able to use a bit less and use it only on the hard to straighten areas.

For me, it was worth the money, and that is saying something because I am a FRUGAL girl! As far as making my hair shinier - I truly can't say, because I color my hair and that makes it super shiny anyway, so I haven't noticed any difference with that. Also, it took me a couple of sessions with the dryer to get the hang of it (but I can be kinda slow on the uptake sometimes, lol)

So that's my real world testimony for you.

It all depends on the texture of your hair and its current condition as to how it responds. In my case I tried it and I wasn't particularly impressed.

pick a color brown thats a little lighter then the one u want. then it will turn the color u want. when u go from light to dark choose a lil lighter color u want. if u buy those do-it-yourself-kit at tthe side it will show u a chart like if u had brown hair it will look like this if u use that product. I went to a new salon 10 weeks ago and a young stylist highlighted my hair in big chunks with also low lights. The foil process was strange. She went vertical all the way across. The process took 2 hrs just to bleach. SHE WAS SO SLOW! When she rinsed out the bleach and wash my hair I noticed alot of hair coming out and my scalp was burning!! Ever since then my hair has thinned out dramatically.:-( IHave been taking biotin to help grow my hair faster. My question is, will my hair ever grow back to my natural thickness again? And what can i do to make it get thick again?will it ever be the same?I also noticed by my hair line a patch of hair that is only 2 inces long. My hair is half way down my back.

Sounds like she left the bleach on too long in spots. Since you have 2 inches of hair still coming out of your scalp, you will definitely have that you hair grow back.

Take a prenatal vitamin, and use a shampoo for dry hair to prevent more breakage.

We've all had at least one hair nightmare in our lives, I have had 3. Once my hair was falling out too...it scared me but it grew back.

The doctor can treat you and the lawyer can make you whole again AND get the salon to pay your medical bills, especially if it is a big salon and you have before and after pictures.

In any case the salon should have insurance to cover this type if thing, you should not suffer from their misdeeds and ineptitude.

Unless the chemical burn was significant enough to cause scarring, your hair will grow back again and again as thick as it is genetically predetermined to do.

Think in terms of depilatory creams (ie Nair) that are designed to dissolve hair. The hair always grows back the same as before.

Go to another salon, and get treatments for the damage done. Also, make sure you take pictures before, during and after. Take it to small claims court, and ask for the cost of the original treatment, and all the treatments needed to get your hair back to the way it was. Be sure to have very good pictures with you as evidence.. also, take along the new hair stylist with you as witness.

This went beyond negligence.

They will ask you why you hadn't spoken up soon with the first hair stylist, and why you hadn't done something sooner, to help improve your hair/scalp.. be prepared to answer a lot of questions, and to prove your side of this!

Please, something can be done.. so don't give up. Would you go back to them to fix the situation.. Personally, I wouldn't..

You know what? the same thing happened to me a couple months ago at the Hair Cuttery. She put so many things in my hair when she highlighted it that my scalp got very tight and it was burning like all hell. After that my hair started falling out!!! What I did was buy a scalp treatment called Doo Gro. These line of products is especially made for thinning hair. My hair stopped falling out after a week or two. After my hair stopped falling out I went to a different salon and cut alot of my hair off the ends. Now my hair does not fall out at all. I'm feelin your pain. Good Luck.

I am so sorry this happened. She sounds like a very inept stylist. The hair thinning is probably due to breakage at the scalp due to over-processing, and should grow back. The same applies to the short pieces you are noticing. You should check your scalp to make sure there are no open sores from the bleach, and make sure there is no infection if there are. As long as they aren't an angry red and very sore there is no need to see your doctor. If they are or you're not sure do go however. The Biotin is good, also take a good multivitamin to make sure your hair is getting all the help you can give it. Other than that, just be gentle with it and wait for it to grow back. When it is long enough you can have your hair layered to blend the shorter pieces with the long and make the damage less noticeable.

It's awful when an inexperienced stylist doesn't ask for help and a salon owner or manager is not watching what is going on in their salon! First thing, take pictures. Have someone do it for you and make sure you section the hair off and get pictures throughout your whole head. Then you must go immediately to the salon owner and SHOW them what happened. Hanging in the salon in clear sight should be a notice from the state Board of Cosmetology. Write down the number and contact them right away. Document everything; conversations, receipts, etc. You are going to have 5 years of this before your hair is back to it's original condition. With that in mind, you have the choice of suing, but you may be able to work it out with the salon owner. You have chemical burns which can be treated with Neosporin. There is very little chance of you being scarred, but it will take a week or two to heal and it will get flaky and peel, I say this because you may think it's dandruff- it's not. Your hair will grow back but you can expect a lot more breakage over the next few months and will probably have to cut your hair shorter to make it look decent. Biotin, additional vitamins, and conditioning treatments are the best thing you can do for your hair. As a professional, I hate to see this happen to anyone, but I think it's very important that those responsible are held responsible so it doesn't happen again. Unfortunately, that means not only do you have to deal with your problem with your hair, but you have the added work of dealing with the people responsible.

you don't have to remove the clamp off of the iron, but i recommend it

point the iron down so that the cord is pointing up

then, twist your hair around the iron, make sure that all of your hair is touching the iron. not overlapping each other

if you have really thick or hard to curl hair, then yes, put hair spray on each section, if not, then just top the style off with hairspray but not on each section

Here's the trick: Wrap your hair in a SPIRAL around the curling iron, or curl it in sections.

If your hair is long, the weight of the hair may be pulling the curl out. You may, indeed, have to use hair spray while curling.

One last thing: I'm sorry, but the girl in that picture has extensions. Hair that long does NOT support curl all the way up, and I can tell from the bottom thickness as compared to the top that it's not all her hair.

There are several things you can do to get the results you want. First, while your hair is wet, use a mousse or gel on it that are made for a fairly strong hold. Every company uses different wording to indicate their strengths of hold, so look at several bottles to see which is which. Then put it in your hair a little at a time, until you can tell it's there, but not so much that it feels gooey or sticky. Comb it through so that it's distributed from your scalp to the ends of your hair. Blow-dry your hair so it's smooth by holding your dryer over the top of your hair strands, in the cool setting,

Next: pick up a small piece of your hair to curl. Place the curling iron about half-way down your hair. Hold the ends up as you wind the curling iron toward your scalp. When you have wound the curling iron up as far as it will go, begin wrapping the unwrapped ends of your hair around the curling iron. Finish the wrap by tucking the ends under the curling iron and hold it until you think it has curled your hair.

Third, unwind the curling iron carefully to avoid tangling your hair. Pin or clip it in rolled up form while you continue to curl the rest of your hair.

Now is when you can use a bit of hair spray, especially inside the curl. Once you have curled, pinned, and sprayed your curls, let then sit a while and cool (and dry from the hair spray.)

Let the curls down one at a time, starting at the bottom and working toward the top of your head. Fluff or pull or brush your curls out to the shape you want your hair and finish with hair spray.

During the curling process you will have to re-heat your curling iron several times because it wil get too cool. If you have problems trying this, and it will take practice to get good at it, you can email me through my profile. Have fun with it. Who knows, you may invent something new for your hair while you are working on this style.

Lastly, Miley Cyrus' hair looks that good because she has professional stylists working on it before photos and performances. Your hair will not likely stay like that for too long. Long hair has a lot of weight that pulls it down, and loosens the curls.
